The Native Garden Gnomes would like to restore the Earth, starting from the north-east and travel beyond. Unfortunately, we have little legs and the green waste-lands are soggy and filled with poison. With your help, we could convert some of the green waste-land areas into NO-mow sedge gardens, or even better, carbon sequestering pocket meadows or prairies. This would help all my gnome brothers and sisters travel farther faster! When we bring back our native species and re-create natural areas, our winged friends can come pick up seeds from us and fly them to where they are needed. One garden at a time we can help rebalance the land, and restore the biodiversity of our ecosystems that will save and re-establish the population of many important species of insects and birds!

clover feild conversions
Clover Feilds are a simple way to keep an open area play and travel worthy while cuting back on the number of cuts per year. Most importantly this is going to eliminating the need for synthetic fertilizers, since clover pulls the nitrogen from the air storeing it in the soil it will bring lush green turff all year long while keeping a thick ground cover for great weed control .This makes them a true, low-maintenance and eco-friendly alternative to a traditional lawn.
Sedge Gardens
Sedge Gardens will turn your un-used lawn spaces into beautiful grasslands. These gardens can can have anywhere from one to a dozen sedges and even ferns that will thrive in your selected area. The best part is that these gardens only need to be trimmed once a year in the spring, and don't require any fertilizer or pesticides. This makes them a true, low-maintenance and eco-friendly alternative to a traditional lawn.
Pocket Prairies
Pocket Prairies are the Garden Gnomes favorite! They're like a pocket full of sunshine, providing warmth in the winter months. They have a foundation of grasses with beautiful wildflowers mixed in, leaving their floating seed pods to provide food for birds all year long. Prairies also help remove a lot of carbon dioxide from the air we breathe, which is especially important now as carbon levels are reaching dangerous levels. Converting small parts of your property into a Pocket Prairie is a great way to make it a carbon neutral place, and the wildlife will thank you by bringing you peace and relaxation through all of the seasons!
Pocket Medows
Pocket Meadows are truly magical places with edges overflowing with life. Imagine how happy you would see something new everyday in your own backyard! You can take any small space and turn it into a pocket meadow filled with vibrant colors and a variety of wildlife friends such as birds, bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. They only need to be cut down once in the springtime. This will help create a habitat for many insects, most importantly the native bees, giving their queen bee a safe place to hibernate undisturbed until the larvae emerges again with the warmth of spring.

“My point is this: each of the acres we have developed for specific human goals is an opportunity to add to Homegrown National Park. We already are actively managing nearly all of our privately owned lands and much of the public spaces in the United States. We simply need to include ecological function in our management plans to keep the sixth mass extinction at bay.”
